Do You Want Quick Relief from Your Hot Flashes and Night Sweats?

Have the night sweats & mood swings that came with menopause, overstayed their welcome, and made you hot under the collar? Relief is here - a breathing technique that reduces mood swings, lowers blood pressure, relieves hot flashes so you can sleep!

One of my favorite breathing techniques is a tool used to reduce irritability and mood swings, while also lowering your blood pressure, which helps relieve your hot flashes and night sweats, so you can enjoy a more restful sleep. This breathing practice is called Brahmari Breath, and it's named after the Brahmari bee because it's a humming breath which sounds similar to the noise the bee makes. Your Pituitary Gland is the "Master Gland" - it's in charge of the hormones in your body and Brahmari Breath works by vibrating this gland. The vibration causes the Pituitary to release endorphins which are the body's "feel good" hormones. Endorphins not only make us feel good, they also reduce our excess levels of harmful stress hormones like cortisol. The Pituitary Gland is located above the roof of the mouth and directly between the ears at the very center of our skull.

Begin by sitting comfortably. Relax your shoulders, lengthen your spine all the way up through your neck, then raise your hands and place your index fingers or thumbs over the little flaps in front of your ear openings. Keep your shoulders as relaxed as possible though, try not to tense up or hunch your back. Next, make sure that your tongue is resting gently against the roof of your mouth to avoid clenching your teeth. A slight separation between upper and lower teeth with your lips closed is usually the most comfortable. Keep your lips closed throughout the exercise and remember that the most important part is closing off the ears so the humming is heard inside your head; his is what causes the vibration and the endorphin release.

Now, close your eyes, inhale deeply, and, keeping your mouth closed, exhale making a humming noise while blocking off your ears by pressing the little flaps closed. Try to make your humming exhale as long as possible and take deep inhalations between breaths. Making the exhale longer and longer each time, complete at three to five rounds (one round is a complete inhalation and exhalation). If you do this practice for three or four minutes at least three times a day, you can significantly lower your blood pressure, reduce irritability, mood swings and the intensity of your hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause. The deep, full breathing that you practice during Brahmari will circulate fresh, oxygenated blood through your body enhances the relief of your hot flashes, night sweats, and irritability. As a bonus, insomnia sometimes being another unwelcome visitor during menopause, practicing Brahmari before bed will bring you a more restful sleep. Another fabulous tip for using this tool is that kids like to do it too, so if you need to help your children or grandchildren with the occasional meltdown, let's all hum together!
