Love Stinks: The 2020 Anti-Valentine's Day Playlist
An anti-Valentine's Day playlist for 2020.
Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and while love birds are anticipating the annual mush fest, those who are not in a committed relationship are dreading the day altogether. Just the thought of couples holding hands, bouquets of flowers being delivered to the office and red hearts just about everywhere you look, is enough to make the average out of love citizen feel sick to their stomach. In honor of everyone not celebrating St. Valentine's Day with a special someone, I dedicate the Anti-Valentine's Day play list.
"Love Stinks" by Adam Sandler
Never before was the true motions of heartbreak recorded in a more comical and realistic way than it was in "The Wedding Singer." Although Sandler's version of "Love Sticks" was a cover, it is the most memorable version of the song to date. Sandler's character Robbie is heart broken after being stood up at the alter, and he decides to wreck someone else's wedding reception by singing "Love Stinks." Classy.
"She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd
A song that sums up a relationship gone sour is "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd. You can't help but laugh at the singer's misfortune as he proclaims "She (expletive) Hates Me." Hopefully the Puddle of Mudd singer got over his cruel ex-girlfriend.
"I Hate Everything About You" by Three Days Grace
A song that is sure to tell your ex exactly how you feel about them is "I Hate Everything About You" by Three Days Grace. This is the ultimate Anti-Valentine's Day song, and is sure to banish the thought of conversational hearts and public displays of affection from your mind.
"Get a Job" by Offspring
Bitter about your ex? Turn on the Offspring's "Get a Job" and you'll be sure to feel a lot better about your situation. With lyrics such as "My friend's got a girlfriend, man he hates that (expletive). He tells me everyday," your mood is bound to lighten.
"Rolling in the Deep" by Adele
God help the man that broke Adele's heart. Their breakup is chronicled throughout her "21" album, and "Rolling in the Deep" is one of the most notable songs on the album. If you can listen to "Rolling in the Deep" and not feel empowered, you might want to check if you still have a pulse.
"F**K You" Cee Lo Green
Another song that empowers the listener is "F**K You" by Cee Lo Green. Besides making an ailing heart feel a little lighter, the song also have a great vibe to it.
"Somebody Kill Me" by Adam Sandler
The "Wedding Singer" strikes again! "Somebody Kill Me" by Adam Sandler was also featured on the movie soundtrack. The song is over the top dramatic, as Sandler begs the audience to please kill him because he is in so much pain after being dumped by his ex.
"You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrissette
When it comes to '90s femme angst and rage, look no further than Alanis Morrissette. Her song "You Oughta Know" appeals to many, and is simply unforgiving. Turn this on, and you'll be feeling much better in no time.
"What Have You Done For Me Lately" by Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately" can appeal to many people, whether they are in a steady relationship or not. The song is catchy, and has a natural ability to make you feel better about your current situation.
"Bulletproof" by La Roux
It simply doesn't get catchier than La Roux's "Bulletproof." Her song has a hypnotic tempo, in your face lyrics and creates a highly memorable output. If you ask me, there is no better way to get over someone than by dancing to a song such as this.
"Get Gone" by Fiona Apple
Fiona Apple knows a thing or two about singing her heart out and taking no prisoners. Her song "Get Gone" features a low key tempo, smooth vocals but showcases some hellacious lyrics. For example: "Flip your (expletive) past another lass's humble dwelling. Got your game, made your shot and you got away with a lot, but I'm not turned on." Sing it, Fiona!
"My Give a Damn's Busted" by Jo Dee Messina
A country song that appeals to this city girl is "My Give a Damn's Busted," by Jo Dee Messina. The lyrics are enough to make a grown man cry, and Jo Dee Messina clearly doesn't care. Sometimes when you're pushed too far, you just have to say, Sorry... "My Give a Damn's Busted."
"Kiss With a Fist" by Florence and the Machine
One of Florence and the Machine's earlier songs is perfect for an Anti-Valentine's Day playlist. "Kiss With a Fist" essentially chronicles a physical relationship gone terribly wrong. Ever get so mad that you wanted to set your bed on fire? Well in this song, Florence does.
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" by The Joy Division
Few say it better than The Joy Division can. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" has been a break-up hit for decades, and no Anti-Valentine's Day list would be complete without it.
