The Vineyards Subdivision, Real Estate, and Community Slide Show
Most people know that the Vineyards is a family friendly community with lots of amenities. But what you might not know about the community is...
The large subdivision is comprised of nearly 400 single-family houses, most of which are two story, brick front or vinyl sided homes. The lots are average to just above average in size with close neighbors for community style living. The neighborhood encourages an outgoing family friendly environment, boasting of the community clubhouse, full size tennis courts, and outdoor swimming facility. Each street is lined with well maintained side walks and has no real through traffic. In warmer months you will see kids outside playing or walking up to the pool, and residents out walking their dogs. It is very peaceful.
Nearly surrounded by overgrown mature trees, The Vineyards has been an extremely desired neighborhood for which to live in St. Charles County since inception. The subdivision is more than 10 years old and the community is starting to show small signs of aging, but is relatively well maintained.
While the subdivision is not necessarily at particularly risk for natural disasters, I thought it would be interesting to point out some community history. In May of 1998, the subdivision was the setting for a tornado that formed and caused minor damage to several of the homes. According to National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office, "A small tornado left an intermittent damage path through the Harvester area of St. Charles County. The first damage occurred about 1/8 mile south of Towers Road in the Vineyards subdivision. Here it snapped several trees and caused minor roof damage. The intensity was F0 with a width of about 40 yards. The tornado crossed Towers Road and moved into the Summerfield subdivision. Seventeen homes in this area suffered roof damage," and "two homes were later condemned by county officials."
If you are considering moving to the subdivision, you may want to ask about the history of the home you are buying and if that home was included in the storms. It may still have hidden structural damage you would want to ask about. You may also want to consider how you feel about purchasing a home with any large trees in yours or neighboring yards, especially if the tree doesn't look real healthy. St. Charles County has only had 39 tornados ever since 1883 and none since January of 2020. There is usually a mild one reported every 3 to seven years.
