Emma Watson Underwear Photos Hot Topic for Late Night
At the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," Emma Watson had a slight wardrobe malfunction and inadvertently showed her underwear to the camera eye, which, by extension, meant photos for "the rest of the world." Some say Emma Watson...
"At least I'm wearing underwear," Emma Watson told David Letterman on "The Late Show" when she stopped by to promote "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." She then hung her head in her hands and said that she was "still learning" this stuff. "This stuff" being the business of celebrity, of having every little move one makes scrutinized by an unforgiving camera and a public that cannot get enough of photos of stars and starlets -- and the closer to naked the better.
And Emma Watson is right. She wasn't naked underneath her long-wrap gown at Tuesday's London "Harry Potter" premiere. Emma Watson showed a refreshing sense of propriety with regard to her wardrobe malfunction. She even looked embarrassed, something even more refreshing in an industry that seems to laud the ever more audacious and obnoxious among its young heirs.
No, she was not naked, having a bit more class and a whole lot more professional modesty than some of our leading celebrities who don't seem to mind showing off their naughty bits to the public, "accidentally" flashing the paparazzi full-on shots of nether parts that weren't hid very well to begin with (if they were hidden at all). A strategically worn garment can get one noticed, but a strategic bend or spread and you're front-page news (at least in the tabloids).
Failing career? Lose the underwear, wear a micro-mini and step up out of a deep-cushioned limo. New album? Toss the underwear and make certain your short dress rides high on the thigh. Relative sports unknown or just not well enough known (insecurity issues)? Let someone take a shot at your uncovered genitalia.
But the naked truth can be far too revealing, showing more of the celebrity than just the naked body part (or parts) exposed in the photos. Therein lies a sickness, more often as not a psychological problem or a multitude of them...
And many do not understand that they will not be benefiting from an airbrush (and some would). But that does not matter to the attention-seekers and the desperate. Exposure -- in every sense of its meaning -- is all that matters.
But sex sells. Even tawdry, self-prostituted celebrity sex sells. Naked body parts sell, just as the potential of viewing naked body parts sells (the secret to Victoria's Secret). Or at least it gets one noticed. Even the unintentional, the truly accidental wardrobe malfunctions, as Emma Watson's underwear flash seemed to be, gets one noticed. Emma Watson's underwear photos are everywhere.
They even got a mention on the David Letterman show.
But it is a nice change of pace to see a young starlet act with a bit of class and a bit of modesty. It is endearing. And one doesn't get the feeling that Emma Watson was intentionally "accidentally" attempting to sell you "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
